Miscellaneous Information
Arthur was born at Vancouver, British Columbia on 10 August 1924. His father was born in Yorkshire, England and was a Die Inspector and his mother was born at Steveston, British Columbia. He had one sister, Leah. He went to Lockwood School 1931-1939 and then to Castelmont High School in Oakland, California on a Drafting course between 1939-1942. Arthur joined in football, boxing and gymnastics at school but preferred fishing and hunting. His hobby was drafting and making model aircraft. He worked as a machinist apprentice for the American Can Company in Oakland, California 1942-1943, where the family lived. |
Arthur then enlisted on 25 March 1943 and after training was posted to the U.K., embarking from Halifax on 20 January 1944. He then went to 3 RCAF(PRC) on 1 February 1944, 22 OTU 8 February 1944, 61 Base 8 May 1944 and 419 Squadron on 20 June 1944. Sadly, this young man then lost his life the following month on 5 July 1944, at the age of only nineteen . |
This crew were on their first operation and the pilot had done one Second Dickie trip. |
